Allison Rian, Aitkin Farmers Market Hub manager, traveled to the state Capitol to participate in the Minnesota Great Apple Crunch with other Farm to Kids stakeholders.

Riverwood Healthcare Center (Riverwood), with the support of the Aitkin Farmers Market Hub (AFM Hub) and Aitkin County Public Health's Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP), received a Local Food Purchasing Assistance (LFPA) grant with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). The grant is supporting Riverwood to purchase local food to create Aitkin Farm Fresh boxes that are readily available to be distributed to individuals, particularly seniors.

Aitkin County Public Health has been collaborating with the Aitkin County Sheriff’s office to complete “Congratulate & Educate” (C&E) compliance checks for tobacco retailers across the county. These checks are in addition to compliance checks and do not result in fines for retailers or clerks that sell to an under aged buyer.

There are currently over 15,000 flavors on the market. These flavors include: blueberry, caramel frappe, cinnamon roll, cotton candy, banana split, watermelon ice, & pina colada, just to name a few. These flavors are appealing to youth and make it easier for them to try and continue to use a vape.

Did you know that Aitkin County is the "oldest" county in Minnesota?
Riverwood Healthcare Center is partnering with the Aitkin Farmers Market Hub to purchase locally grown food from Aitkin County's very own and nearby farmers. Additionally, the healthcare institution has partnered with Aitkin County CARE and Angels of McGregor to help distribute the food boxes to the senior population they serve.
